This week we've also dealt with her getting sick for the first time. Thankfully, it's just a cold, but it's amazing how much liquid can come pouring out of one little face! That, and it's awfully hard to suck your fingers to fall asleep when you are too stuffed up to breathe. There was one nap where this kept Gail from falling asleep, and because I felt so strongly about the nap, here's how we ended up:
It worked, she napped, and as an added bonus, I got about an hour of sleep too. Since then she has been kind of stuffy and a little runny nose, but Tuesday was definitely the worst of it and she's doing much better.
Yesterday (Wednesday) was Gail's 6 month doctor appointment, which went well as usual. At 16 lb 12 oz, she's down to 65th percentile for weight, but she's still 99th percentile for height at 28 inches. The poor girl was subjected to 4 needles! The doctor says she usually doesn't recommend 4 at once, but she definitely had to have 3 vaccines. The difficulty was, the first year getting a flu shot they like to do it twice, a month apart, so that would have meant 2 more trips to the office to get poked if we didn't just do one yesterday, so she suggested it was easier to just get it done. In a month we'll being going back for the flu booster and then we should be done with needles until she's a year old. Whew!
Gail is basically allowed to eat anything except honey and things she could choke on. Apparently all the recommendations on introducing new foods slowly and waiting longer have changed, and if children are exposed to more food early on, they are less likely to have allergies.
The only food Gail hasn't liked so far is watermelon! She tried hard to eat it, but her face looked like she was trying not to cry, so we've given that up for now. We have progressed to tiny chunks of food, like noodles and peaches and sweet potatoes, and I'll be buying her some graham crackers at the store today.
This is turning into a novel, so I'll call it a day now!
